Safe Schools: Responding to Emergencies and Disasters with Youth (READY) Participants will learn about the overall goals of the READY initiatives, which aim to reduce vulnerabilities by: • empowering youth with personal responsibility and encouraging team building skills; • educating youth to take leadership in community efforts of prevention; • educating youth to respond to emergency and disaster situations in their home, school and community; • increasing the number of youth who volunteer in their communities through service learning projects; • increasing the interest in health and public service careers; and • developing leadership skills to affect change through higher education after graduation from high school.
